A midrange server is a physical computer that operates
the programs of computers within a network and falls between the mainframe
computers and microcomputers. It is used in environments where science and
research as well as for small to medium business are involved.


A workstation is a computer that makes requests of
servers for resources and access to files, data or applications stored on the
server, which then grants or denies access to these resources. Workstations
were originally "dumb terminals" that connected to and requested
resources from a mainframe computer
