Main-Frame Computers

Less powerful than super computer, Mainframe computers are fast & large capacity, computers also occupying special air-conditioned room. Mainframes are used by large organization / Bank, Airlines, Insurance companies, Universities, to handle millions of transactions.

Mainframes use branded operating systems, most of which are based on UNIX, and an increasing number on Linux. Over the years they have grown from being room-sized to networked configurations of workstations and servers that are extremely economical and cost effective platforms for e-commerce development and hosting. Mainframes are so called because the initial ones were housed in large metal frames.
